Festival of Death and Dying
In contemporary Western culture death and dying are generally regarded as something to fight against, deny, hide from public view and above all fear. But what if we were to look at them differently? Despite understandable fear and denial, we may have very good reasons to want to learn more about death and dying. Thinking about and experiencing mortality–our own and that of others–can make us our lives richer, deeper and more valuable to us. Mortality in truth is the intensification of life.
There will be over 20 participatory workshops, performances, talks and ceremonies on different aspects of death and dying over two days. In addition to talks and discussions, you will have experiences, which do justice to the full spectrum of what is at stake in mortality.

The Sexiness of Risk
Too many of us today are terrified of taking risks, having been indoctrinated by our culture to desire as much security as possible.
Risk, philosophers say, is an antidote to trauma. For if trauma captures the future in such a way that our present becomes modelled on past experiences, a line of risk opens the possibility of the new, the unknown.
To heal, we actually need to take risks.
But to do so intelligently and beautifully, we need not only support from others we trust, but also a sustained practice of self-connection, internal listening, what the polyvagal people call interoception and neuroception.
Alessandra Massi and Peter Banki invite you on a journey of erotic mindfulness to help you find the courage and energy to take the risks that are uniquely yours.
Dance, costume, role play, embodiment, sensuality, breath and time are some of the tools we use.
Sometimes it is not so much going towards an other that is truly risky, but allowing ourselves to feel ourselves and be seen, without stopping at the taboos imposed about how we think we’re supposed to be or act.
How can I not let fear of rejection rule me?
How can I find the courage to fall? And then get up again?
How can I cultivate myself for who I might be rather than who I am?
Feeling alive is not a given, it is a task.

Integrating Altered States
Have you had a challenging psychedelic experience or one that you have struggled to make sense of? Do you yearn for a community where you can reflect on and share your non-ordinary states of consciousness with others?
The integration circle will offer a compassionate, curious and confidential space for those who have used psychedelics or have accessed extraordinary states via other means (such as breathwork, fasting, experiences known as ‘psychosis’ or spiritual emergency).
You will be offered an opportunity to openly explore and share your encounters. Small group sharing, drawing and writing, as well as movement, breathwork and/or meditation may be employed to provide you with different avenues to work through your journey(s). The intention of this session is for the insights received through the non-ordinary experiences to become embodied and integrated into one’s life, instead of a collection of memories that quickly fade into the background.
We acknowledge that the use of psychedelics continues in our society despite a long history of criminalisation. This group neither encourages nor condemns the use of psychoactive substances. We provide education and harm minimisation interventions to those who make their own choice to partake.
Natalia (she/her) grew up in Poland and settled in Australia 20 years ago. She is a social worker, body researcher and plant medicine enthusiast. She has spent the last decade working in drug and alcohol, “mental health”/psychiatric complex and the disability sector. Before that, she worked as a Hawaiian bodyworker and massage therapist for 8 years. She has been part of the Erotic Living community since 2011.
Current interests: rock climbing, black holes, Internal Family Systems, subtle embodied states.
If you know Natalia, you might know that she is happiest when found in nature bushwalking, stargazing and rock wrangling 😀
Natalia also provides support in preparation and integration in the field of psychedelics.
Imaginary Psychedelic Journeys
🍄 This one of a kind workshop is for you if you’ve taken psychedelics in the past, and would like to learn how to self-generate similar pathways to expanded experience, and/or integrate prior experiences.
🌵And this workshop is for you if you are yet to dip your toes into the psychedelic realm, and would like a practice run without the inhibition that can come along with going outside the law.
In this workshop we will use techniques of breath, immersive sound, vision, imagination and play, to explore the outer reaches of the mind, all without taking a substance.
When? Sat 27 April, 12-5pm
Where? City of Sydney Creative Studios; 119 Bathurst St, Sydney NSW 2000
Cost? $99 (Early Bird), $149
Primal Play with Ira Zev
Would you like to strip back the socialised self and drop into a state of pure being?
In primal play, we don’t embody or imitate other other animals, rather we strip back our civility and discover our primal selves.
In that place we together reconnect to our pure body sensitivity and responsiveness, and discover how this can change the ways we play with others, relying not so much on our cognitive minds, but rather on our mammalian sensitivity and body language to navigate play.
In this one day workshop you will:
Learn to flow creatively in play, trusting that you and your body can work with anything that arises
Expand your capacity to navigate your internal world
Experience what it is like to trust yourself to go to edgy places in the play realm
Discover a pathway to an expanded capacity for richer and deeper play with others.
Explore the power and wisdom of fear, rage and hesitation in your body, and how ‘going there’ can cultivate cathartic and ecstatic play.
Where? Glebe Town Hall, (Main Hall) 160 St Johns Rd, Glebe NSW 2037
When? Sunday 14th April; 10am-4:30pm.
Cost? $149 (Early Bird until 1st April); $199 (thereafter), EL Members Free
My name is Ira Zev.
I am an Embodied Processing Practitioner, a Somatic Sexuality Facilitator and an Artist.
By blending these modalities, I have cultivated a unique means of working with the body as a gateway to unlocking the subconscious.
Play is an inherently somatic experience in which we drop out of our dominating hypervigilant cognition and into our subconscious body’s wisdom.
From this space we can explore ourselves more deeply, and with compassionate curiosity we discover hidden or even abandoned parts of us that can be given space and permission to be seen.
This workshop day offers 3 sessions where we will delve into our primal nervous system responses through the art of play.
It is an opportunity to observe where our edges may sit, and allow us to explore fear and rage in our bodies with the potential to discover and even dissolve their origins.
Please bring:
Clothes that you feel comfortable to move in,
Water bottle

Exploring our Ecological Grief
Do you sometimes feel overwhelmed by the environmental changes and losses that we are all experiencing? Do you find yourself turning away or trying not to think about newscasts that speak about what is happening today because it’s too overwhelming? Do you feel a sense of despair, dread, anxiety about what is to come as climate impacts worsen?
It is extremely important that we grieve the losses that we experience on a day-to-day basis. If we don’t grieve, we harden our hearts and lose connection to who and what we love.
Facilitated by Natalia Je and Peter Banki this workshop offers you a shared and supported space to explore your feelings and thoughts about ecological loss.
This workshop comes from the idea that before any deep change may happen, we first need to acknowledge our feelings and have a space to share and be held in them.

Yoga for Erotic Life
Are you one of those people who spends most of their time in their heads?
I most certainly am.
But over many years I’ve learned that if I connect daily with my body and my breath, my mind becomes cooler and stronger - and I make more skillful decisions in life.
Yoga is firstly not for the body, but for the chitta: the consciousness, mind, awareness and moral uprightness that it brings. Body strength and flexibility are just a by-product.
For the first time I’ve decided to offer an introductory yoga course for the curious and the brave, called “Yoga for Erotic Life”.
One of my teachers, Debbie Belnick, has given me permission to teach in her studio in Bondi Junction.
Yoga is an energetic practice and not a dogma.
I’ve been practicing yoga for over 20 years.
I could not have written a Ph.D without it, nor could I have hosted so many wild sexuality festivals.
Before a large festival I almost always do a 5 day yoga intensive.
Yogic practice is, if you like, my secret weapon. It gives me the resources to cope with the inevitable turbulence that festivals create.
It’s also one of the reasons I feel so close to the work of Joseph Kramer, who has developed a Yoga of Sex.
Another mentor, Felix Ruckert, who has been doing the work much longer than I, also practices yoga every day.
In Love and Lust,
Peter Banki, Ph.D.
The Secret Love of Poetry
Are you secretly in love with poetry?
Do you find that words touch something within you that you can only otherwise faintly sense is there?
This workshop with Australian poet Richard James Allen will examine poetry as a heightened state of sensitivity, an alternate position of consciousness, perhaps even the music of the soul - if we are willing to surrender to it.
Richard James Allen’s poetry has appeared widely in journals, anthologies, and online, and he has been a popular reader at multiple performing arts venues, over many years. Books include: More Lies (Interactive Press, 2021), The short story of you and I (UWAP, 2019), Fixing the Broken Nightingale (Flying Island Books, 2014), The Kamikaze Mind (Brandl & Schlesinger, 2006) and Thursday’s Fictions (Five Islands Press, 1999), shortlisted for the Kenneth Slessor Prize for Poetry. Richard is well-known for his multi-award-winning career as a filmmaker and choreographer with The Physical TV Company and as a performer in a range of media and contexts.

Philosophy and Suicide with Sebastian Job & Peter Banki
Have you considered suicide?
We do not ask this question flippantly.
The philosopher, Albert Camus, argued that suicide is the most urgent philosophical question.
All other questions presuppose an answer to this one.
Suicide is an occupational hazard for anyone really.
Some of our friends, who are philosophers, have chosen to end their lives.
In this session we will engage personal and philosophical reflections on the pleasures and hazards of an examined life. We will share what philosophers such as Camus, Hegel, Socrates and others have had to say on the topic.
When? Monday, 8th August @ 7:30pm (AEST)
Cost? $27 (EL Members Free)

Sexuality Play & Deep Connection | EL Mid Year Training
EL 2022 Mid-Year Training
4 Day Journey, 2nd-6th June 2022 @ Blue Mountains (near Katoomba)
If you are interested in learning about sexuality and giving yourself and others permission, then sooner or later your trauma will show up: your fears, your insecurities, the stories you tell yourself, the limits of what you think is possible for yourself and others.
At this unique residential training, we will give you the opportunity to learn how to create the feeling of safety, while experiencing all that is possible for you in the erotic field.
From our experience, spaces of erotic permission have the capacity to open you up and release deep-seated pain and fear, while showing you new ways of living and being with others.
During this unique Residential Training, you will learn how to:
Heal experiences that have limited your possibilities for connection, communication and pleasure;
Discover how the anatomy of sexual arousal, sensual massage and energetic breathwork pracitices increase your capacities for pleasure;
Attune both verbally and nonverbally with others to share vulnerably and build trust;
Expand the repertoire of your sexual preferences and gender identity;
Metabolise trauma;
Experience sexuality for a higher purpose, what is called the transpersonal.
You can do this deep work alone or even solely within the boundaries of your couple relationship. However, you will go much further, faster—and ultimately be much safer—with the support of an informed, ethical community of people who have been doing this work for a long time. Community gives you emotional support, accountability and especially a language to process what’s happening to you. Whatever your current relationship status and wherever you are on your erotic journey, the training is an ideal place to make new friends and deepen old ones while evolving your practice and self-understanding.
How Will the Training be Conducted?
The training is designed to support you to evolve erotically, not only during your stay in the Blue Mountains, but also in your day-to-day life before and after.
For this reason it includes:
weekly group coaching calls, online Sexuality, Healing and Deep Play course, membership in private Facebook group;
the 4-day residential training in the Blue Mountains;
integration of your experiences in the weeks following the retreat.
The residential training combines 4 days and 4 nights of embodied practice, workshops, play, ceremony and artistic installations. It is strongly recommended to come for the whole period to get the full benefit. However, if you are unable to, it is still possible for you to enrol. Contact Us!
The training is wholistic, combining embodiment practice each morning (breath-work, yoga, dance, self-pleasuring and co-regulation), skill workshops in the afternoon, curated ceremonies and play spaces at night.
This is deep work. Group check-ins and processing will also happen throughout the training. Time will also be allotted each day by the faculty to provide one-on-one mentoring for you for whatever you may be grappling with.
Who is the Training For?
This journey is recommended for people who already have some experience with spaces of erotic permission, as well as an embodiment practices such as yoga, tantra, meditation, martial arts and/or dance. If you are uncertain whether you qualify, please let us know when you schedule your call with us. All our work is trauma-informed, First Nations and LGBTIQA+ allied.
Because the group dynamic is very important to the success of this journey, you are invited to book a conversation with us before enrolling. It is also possible to make contact through email or PM to Peter Banki through Facebook Messenger.
The 2022 mid-year edition will be led by el Lead Faculty Peter Banki, Ph.D, Ira Zev and Nadia Nauss.
Where will it happen?
The EL Mid-Year Training will take place at a beautiful retreat sanctuary near Katoomba in the Blue Mountains, NSW. It was originally a Buddhist sanctuary. As it was built for monks, there is only single bed accommodation available. Camping or caravan is also possible. There are single bedrooms as well as shared accommodation. Because of the arrangement we have the owners, whether you stay in a room at the retreat or camp, caravan or stay off-site, tickets are all the same price.
How much does it cost?
Prices are currently Early Bird, they will all rise on May 1. If you are interested in coming, you are advised to contact us now.
The exact prices will be given during the call. There are discounts if you book in combination with an EL festival and/or chose to come with another person.
Catering for the retreat is purchased with your ticket. Self-catering, while not advised, is also possible. Have a look at our previous retreat menus to get an idea of the catering options.
What People are Saying About Us
“I have been coming to Erotic Living events since 2017 and, although I have attended similar workshops, each time has given me a different experience and ways to reflect and be a better person - to myself and to others - not only in the erotic space, but in all aspects of my personal and professional life. I will be coming for many years to come and wish I had these opportunities given to me as a young woman. Always learning and enjoying it!” Kim McBurnie, Coach, Sydney
"I've been to Into the Wild for the last three years and for me, each one has been even better than the last. I always learn new and often unexpected things...about myself, others, and the sphere of sexuality. There is always plenty to challenge, stimulate and excite me, amazing people to connect with, fresh perspectives to be exposed to, and so much to contemplate and process. I always come home 'alive' - re-invigorated, switched on and excited about the possibilities life and human connection have to offer. It's been of enormous benefit to me personally and in my work as a psychotherapist working in the field of sexuality." JB, Psychologist
"I would 100% recommend Into the Wild to anyone who is willing to explore the full potential of their sexuality. I went in with no expectations and came with a totally new perspective on my sexual potency and potential. My repertoire of sexual games and ways to communicate consciously during sex have increased exponentially. Thank you!" Carolyn L.

What people are saying about Erotic Living
“I have been coming to Erotic Living events since 2017, each time has given me ways be a better person - to myself and to others - not only in the erotic space, but in all aspects of my personal and professional life. I will be coming for many years to come and wish I had these opportunities given to me as a young woman.”
Kim McBurnie, Sydney
“I write this testimonial a day after The Festival of Erotic Living and I feel alive, refreshed, satisfied and hungry all at the same time. The world doesn't have an environment to discuss our needs and fantasies, but the safe space created here means you are not judged, in fact it is encouraged.”
VJ Raju Dorai about the most recent EL Festival on November 1, 2020, Sydney
“We had a great day and found it pitched at the right level. Tastefully run without being overtly sexual. There were many tips on communication that we’ve taken away and practice now. We’ll certainly be back for more so thanks for a great day.”

Healing Our Nervous Systems
Before we can open up and play, we need to feel safe. This is a fundamental truth that is becoming better understood today. Teaching ourselves how to feel safe and then sharing this feeling with others — is quite simply — the condition for a happy and successful life and deep erotic connection.
In this 2 hour in-person workshop, we will practice feeling safe by:
Down-regulating our nervous systems through non-threatening touch and being held;
Sharing music and breathing together;
Learning to modulate our voices;
Practicing intimacy with others without expectation.
Register now for Healing our Nervous Systems
Cost? $49 per person; $79 couple.

BDSM Healing & Deep Play | EL Winter Training
8 Day Journey, 26th November - 3rd December @ Blue Mountains (near Katoomba)
“We never sat down and said: “We’re going to use kink to process trauma”. We just kind of did it one day. It can be very scary. But if done correctly and consensually and with the right partner(s), it can be something that is also very healing.”
“Using BDSM to Cope with Trauma” Vice Guide to Sex
One can use BDSM play to create art and also as a means to get very turned-on. Yes, one can do that.
But at a deeper level BDSM play is also a very powerful way to deal with trauma—both personal and cultural.
At this unique residential training, we will give you the opportunity to learn how to create deep and healing forms of play both for yourself and those who you love.
From our experience, these forms of play have the capacity to open you up and release deep-seated pain and fear, while showing you new ways of living and being with others.
During the 8-day training, you will learn:
1. Fantasies and the Concept of Play - we explore dominant fantasies in your life now and your lifetime peak erotic experiences. We discover play as a core concept of BDSM understood as a mimetic practice, similar to acting and theatre, i.e, a space where you can say and do what you can’t elsewhere and realise yourself beyond the constraints of everyday reality.
* To learn more about this, check out the chapters on the “core erotic theme” and "troublesome turn-ons" in The Erotic Mind by Jack Morin
2. How to Conduct Play Sessions from Beginning to End - how to find play partners who nurture and support your journey, how to experiment with costumes and props; the subtle art of negotiation; tools to play with and eroticise emotions, such as gratitude, devotion, shame, anger, sadness, fear — even sweetness, gentleness and naivety; shibari, impact play, new forms of play beyond those you may already be familiar with, such as interrogation play, mummification, chastity, age play.
3. How to Use BDSM to Grow as a Human Being - we give you an effective framework for making and accepting invitations (whether single or partnered); for integrating BDSM in the context of a stable relationship (whether short term or long term, play partner or lover); using play to look at what troubles you personally, socially and existentially (eg. body shame, shyness, personal and inter-generational trauma, injustice, mortality, feelings of powerlessness, of being unwanted, abandoned, ageing, abused.); what to do if a play session or BDSM relationship breaks down; how to repair and go on; the spiritual dimensions of BDSM.
*To learn more about the spiritual dimensions of BDSM, see Radical Ecstasy by Janet Hardy and Dossie Easton
4. The Power of Community - You can do this deep work alone or even solely within the boundaries of your couple relationship. However, you will go much further, faster—and ultimately be much safer—with the support of an informed, ethical community of people who have been doing this work for a long time. Community gives you emotional support, accountability and especially a language to process what’s happening to you. Whatever your current relationship status and wherever you are on your BDSM journey, the training is an ideal place to make new friends and deepen old ones while evolving your practice and self-understanding.
How Will the Training be Conducted?
The training combines 8 days and 8 nights of embodied practice, workshops, play, ceremony and artistic installations. It is strongly recommended to come for the whole period to get the full benefit. However, if you are unable to, it is still possible for you to enrol. Contact Us!
The training is wholistic, combining embodiment practice each morning (TRE, breath-work, yoga, tai chi, dance and co-regulation), BDSM skill workshops in the afternoon, curated ceremonies and play spaces at night.
This is deep work. Group check-ins and processing will also happen throughout the training. Time will also be allotted each day by the faculty to provide one-on-one mentoring for you for whatever you may be grappling with.
Who is the Training For?
This journey is recommended for people who already have some experience with BDSM, as well as an embodiment practice such as yoga, tantra, martial arts and/or dance. If you are uncertain whether you qualify, please let us know when you schedule your call with us.
Because the group dynamic is very important to the success of this journey, you are invited to book a conversation with us before enrolling. It is also possible to make contact through email or PM to Peter Banki through Facebook Messenger.
The 2021 summer edition will be led by el Lead Faculty Peter Banki, Ph.D, Ira Zev (somatic kink educators) and Avalon (one of the highest level Shibari rope practitioners in Australia). el Assistant Faculty Nadia Nauss and Ron van Twuiver (tantra practitioners), Sarah Roffey (therapeutic support).
EL 2021 Winter Faculty
Where will it happen?
The EL Winter Training will take place at a beautiful retreat sanctuary near Katoomba in the Blue Mountains, NSW. It was originally a Buddhist sanctuary. As it was built for monks, there is only single bed accomodation available. Camping or caravan is also possible. There are single bed rooms as well as shared accomodation. Because of the arrangement we have the owners, whether you stay in a room at the retreat or camp, caravan or stay off-site, tickets are all the same price.
How much does it cost?
The exact prices will be given during the call. There are discounts if you book in combination with an EL festival and/or chose to come with another person.
Catering for the retreat is purchased with your ticket. Self-catering, while not advised, is also possible. The resident caterer, Marcin Paszkowski, is a vegan chef. Have a look at our previous ITW menus to get an idea of what he will cook.
