Canberra Really Good Sex Festival

The Really Good Sex Festival is a two day journey like no other. It is a play ground to have new experiences and face your fears and blockages when it comes to love and sexuality. All workshops and parties are learner-centred and for every-body, whether you are young or old, single or in a couple, monogamous or in an open relationship. The festival creates a safe container for embodied, experiential learning, where all activity is based on safety and informed consent.

The inaugural Canberra 2019 edition will take place on September 21-22 at Smiths’ Alternative. It offers an array of participatory workshops, talks and ceremonies.

Meet the festival presenters, learn about verbal and body consent, and how best to navigate through the festival. To ensure that everyone who comes to the festival takes part in an atmosphere of informed consent, we strongly recommend that all participants attend the Opening Ceremony. If participants cannot attend the Opening Ceremony, they must attend the inductions on Sunday morning at 9am to gain entry to the festival.

While holding forms an integral part of many physical interactions, and while it can, by itself, generate intense emotions and sensations, it is rarely investigated on its own merit. Often we do not actually feel safely held, even though that is what we long for (we can only truly let go when we know that someone will be there to hold us). Once we understand what it is that makes being held a less than satisfying experience, we can be clearer about what it is that we wish to feel in an embrace and where to place our attention.

Deepen your understanding of consent with Ira Zev. Learn how to feel in your body whether it is a yes or a no, and how to read the body of the other. Learn the different possibilities and dynamics of consent. And how to give feedback when things don’t work, as you may wish.

Dive deep into the ocean of human interaction. In this improvised show Troubador Impro will explore themes of love, intimacy, sex and connection.Without scripts of guide them, they rely on their own true experience and the stories of their audience to inform their situations and guide their decision making as they play with what it means to be human.

The Magical Space is a curated play party which explores theatricality, ceremony and poetry in the context of erotic play. There will be the possibility to explore different roles and games. Costumes will be available, although it is strongly encouraged to think of a character you would like to play and bring your own costume.

Theatrical Skills and Improvisation are extremely helpful in getting the most out of sex-positive spaces. These skills will allow you to be playful and get the most out of situations that present themselves. Join Troubador to discover a philosophy of risk, awareness and joy as we guide you through a few of our fundamental improv techniques and exercises.

Love Connection Breath - What happens when we gaze deeply into the eyes of another? Some report feelings of intense love, erotic energy, a little embarrassment or shyness. Dive into the Love Connection Breath and find out why the eyes have it.

Beyond the hands, what can one body offer another in a sensory exchange? Bumping and Grinding is a method of play in which the entire body is used as a sensory tool. In this workshop we will explore the psychological and physiological benefits of both body contact and deep touch pressure therapy. We will utilise body contact and body weight to cultivate a nurturing and grounding sensory experience and experiment with how one can establish a power exchange dynamic using just the body.

This workshop will explore the sensuality and poetry of the kiss. How does it feel? What does it say? We will create a ritual which creates space to slow down and explore, experience and touch the lips and mouth. The textures and tastes of fruit will join us in our play.

The Closing Ceremony with be an opportunity to come together and process as a whole group what we've experienced. We will be providing tea and snacks. This will also be opportunity for you to get some nurturing aftercare and storytelling.
